Walton’s Fancy and Staple
Walton’s Fancy and Staple on West 6th is my favorite lunch spot that I always forget. When I had the opportunity to catch up with my friend Nico recently, it was the perfect place to sit and chat.
Although I haven’t purchased flowers (yet) from Walton’s, I really enjoy their fresh presence while I eat.
Walton’s has the feel of a little indoor market with bakery, patisserie, floral shop, and coffee bar all rolled into one. The decor is quaint and inviting.
On a sunny Sunday we met for brunch. Nico was feeling in the mood for lunch, while I was feeling breakfasty. I had a simple meal of eggs, bacon, and whole wheat toast. Everything was cooked perfectly. Eggs were yokey, bacon crispy, toast crunchy.
Not to mention this little beauty:
Nico had the Fancy Lunch, which is a half sandwich and a soup or a salad. She chose a turkey sandwich and a salad with spinach, arugula, green apple, aged white cheddar and candied walnuts. She proclaimed everything delicious. A true compliment, given that she spent the better part of the past year living in France.
We were too full to indulge in sweets, which is a shame because Walton’s has a gorgeous selection of pastries, chocolates, little tarts and pies, and other mouthwatering delights. I need to make a point to go just for dessert one day.
Walton’s is the perfect place to pass time soaking in the atmosphere. What’s your favorite quaint spot?
