Between the many festivals, events and trailer parks we have, Austin makes it pretty easy for us to sample multiple food trucks at once. And now with Trailer Food Tuesdays, we have another easy opportunity. Yesterday was the first in a series of events at the Long Center. The last Tuesdays of the next fews months, a number of trucks will gather on the terrace from 5 to 9.
Patrons walked around and sampled food from Yumé Burger, The Peached Tortilla, The Evil Wiener, Coohaus, Hey Cupcake, Dock & Roll Diner, Chi’Lantro, Be More Pacific, and The Seedling Truck. For those that didn’t want to sprawl out on the lawn, there was plenty of seating in the shade, as well as two bars and a DJ. If it was 20 degrees cooler I could have stayed all night. It was a great setup and The Long Center volunteers are the best.
A few of these trucks are my faves, but I vowed to tried something new. We were lucky to get sample portions instead of full sizes, so we were able to hit up a few different trucks. The first one we tried was Be More Pacific, Filipino food with a modern twist.
We sampled Longanisa Tater Tots and Bacon Fried Rice. We heard both were big hits with the after-bar crowd. They were pretty tasty, although we wanted them to be much spicier.
Next we ventured over to The Seedling Truck. They are known for their innovative gourmet menu that uses local ingredients. Sadly, they were only taking cash which we didn’t have, so we moved on. But we’ll be back for you, Seedling. Right next to Seedling was Dock & Roll Diner.
We tried tiny little sliders. One was a a lobster roll (!) and the other a Bahn mi, adorably named The Blue Bahn-ett. The lobster was our favorite nosh of the night.
It was tempting not to hit up Yumé Burger or Chi’Lantro. They were clearly the heavy hitters of the night, with long lines that never ended. But we resisted and made one final stop at The Evil Wiener. We tried the Good Ole’ Americana with mustard and such, and the Tex-Mex, which was the messiest thing I’ve ever eaten.
We left happy, full, and a little sunburned. We will definitely be back! Lessons learned for next time: bring cash, wear sunscreen, don’t forget the camera. Hope you enjoyed the humble iPhone photos.
