Kale Chips

I have to admit, I’m not fully on board with kale yet. I like it, I’m just not in love with it. I can deal with it in soups but definitely not salads. Yet. I’m building up to it. But it’s so good for you and I really want to be one of those people who just love kale. So I keep buying it.

The best way to get rid of the kale I keep buying is to make kale chips. It is easy and they really are very tasty.

Start by taking your clean kale and tear it into bite size pieces, eliminating the thick rib that runs down the middle of each leaf.

KaleBite sized kalePut it in a pretty red bowl. Or whatever bowl you have.

I got a new camera you guys, can you tell? I still don’t really know how to use it yet and need to learn a lot about photography, but you can be sure the photos on this blog will get better and better.

Kale

Where were we? Oh yes, kale. For half a bunch of kale I used a little under a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix it with your hands, evenly coating the kale. Then season with a little salt, again mixing thoroughly. A little goes a long way, so just use a pinch. I also sprinkled cayenne pepper on mine because I like everything spicy. It added a pleasant heat and I recommend trying it.

Spread on a baking sheet, giving each piece a little room to breathe. Use more than one sheet if you are making a lot.

Roasting kale

Let it roast in a 250° oven for 15-20 minutes. I’ve lost a few batches to burning, so now I do it at a low temperature, but if you are careful (and your oven is better than mine) you can do this at a higher temp in about ten minutes. Just check on it frequently. And that’s it. Enjoy your healthy, crunchy snack!

Congrats on the camera! Now for kale . . . I love kale chips!! I also like kale salads, but only if the leaves are massaged REALLY well with dressing and left to marinate for awhile before eating. Finally, kale actually tastes good in my breakfast smoothies, but only when I use a banana. 🙂
